Create Awesome Closets with Closet Storage Systems

Maybe you’re like I am in that when you see pictures of perfectly-organized closets you are awestruck. Do you look at the beautiful changes that have been made in closets, or modern alternatives to regular old-fashioned closets and wish your own closets looked that good? There are a lot of companies that sell closet storage systems these days, but you may feel that they’re way out of your financial league. Maybe it’s time to look at them again.

There are all kinds of closet storage systems available both online and in local home improvement stores. You can take your own measurements and do your own installations, or you can have the job professionally done. You can even design your own ideal system and hire a carpenter to build it for you. A typical 6’x 8’ walk-in closet has about 20’ of linear space in it. By adding a closet organizer, you can double that to 40’.

Some systems are made of coated heavy-duty wire, and others are beautifully-crafted wood pieces. Some are designed to eliminate the closet doors and open up the area. Can you imagine your closet being so organized that you’d be willing to have it open for everyone to see?

In addition to complete closet kits, there are lots of modular storage items available so that you can build your own system. You can buy storage cubes, shoe cubbies, clothing racks, and shelving units and put them together into a configuration that suits your needs. This method won’t require any professional help or carpentry skills, so it’s a good option for someone that isn’t very handy.

There are two basic types of closet storage systems available: those intended for standard reach-in closets, and those designed for walk-in closets. For reach-in closets, systems are set up to utilize every possible bit of space. Shelves can be adjusted to fit the existing space and can be adjusted or cut to fit smaller closets. The top shelves reach even with the top of the closet door, and since the units are only about 12” deep, you still have room to put items on top of the unit.

Parts of most standard reach-in storage system include double-hung bars for shorter garments, single bars for longer items, shoe racks, shelving, and drawers. You will be amazed at how much more room you’ll seem to have with the right organization system. And if you have more space in your room than in your closet, you can buy additional free-standing units to give you even more additional storage space.

For walk-in closets, the only thing that will hold you back is the size of the closet. Otherwise you can have everything that’s in a reach-in closet system and more. You can find high quality wooden systems in maple, cherry, and mahogany. If your closet is large enough, you can purchase center islands that provide even more cupboard and drawer space. When you look at pictures of these systems online, you’ll have to agree that they look more like you’re in a high-end men’s store than in someone’s closet.

You will be able to find almost anything you could want to organize your closets. There’s just no need for messy, over-stuffed closets any more. It’s no wonder more and more people are opting to install them all the time.
